Mindful Cleaning

Mindful Cleaning

In todays day in age it is hard to relax and feel inner peace. We are all overwhelmed with our everyday to do lists. It never seems like there is enough hours in the day. We find ourselves living in the past and worrying about the future. Lately, the media likes to add to our uncertainty. We are always tired or have even reached exhaustion. It is predicted that we have over 6000 different thoughts per day. Anxiety, insomnia and depression are at an all time high. Many of us feel like there is something wrong with us because over time the hustle and bustle of life begins to take a toll on our physical and mental health. What I want to assure you is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel from overwhelm and stress. It's called mindfulness. If you haven't heard of this magical tool then I encourage you to keep reading.

Mindfulness is a practice of focusing your attention and mind to the present moment. It is a tool that will help relieve stress and ultimately improves overall happiness and well-being. It is a practice we should all prioritize each day and there are many different ways we can do this. Meditation is a spiritual practice and I don't recommend jumping straight into meditation- however if you are interested there are a few different apps out there to try and check out. The difference between mindfulness and meditation is that mindfulness is that usually time is set aside to meditate while mindfulness can be applied to any situation throughout the day. Focusing on the task at hand such as cleaning is a very easy way to practice mindfulness.

How to stay mindful while cleaning:

  • Focus only on the task at hand
  • And your breathing
  • Breathe normally, just pay attention to it
  • And the task at hand
  • Try and catch yourself when you start thinking about something else, something irrelevant to the task at hand
  • Then – without berating yourself for losing concentration – move your focus back to the task at hand
  • repeat until the task is done.
